The custard most Nigerian children were raised on. Smooth, vanilla, and the breakfast that meant somebody had time that morning.

How to make it

1. Put three or four heaped tablespoons in a bowl.
2. Mix with a little cold water first into a smooth paste. Skip this and you get lumps you cannot rescue.
3. Pour in boiling water while stirring continuously until it thickens.
4. Add milk and sugar to taste.

How it gets eaten

On its own for breakfast, with akara or moi moi beside it, or with bread. Thick enough to stand a spoon in, if you were raised properly.
